Healthy does not mean complicated
The World Health Organization describes four broad principles of healthy diets: adequacy, balance, moderation and diversity. In an Indian context, that can be built with familiar foods rather than an imported “perfect” meal plan.
A practical plate framework
- Use vegetables, pulses and whole or minimally processed foods regularly.
- Include an appropriate protein source in meals.
- Choose carbohydrate portions according to needs, activity and health condition.
- Limit foods high in free sugars, excess sodium and unhealthy fats.
- Keep the plan culturally familiar and sustainable.
